Tony was caught making great use of his reading time and helping others read and AR test.

Natalie was caught reading with Max, and they did a beautiful job.

Joe and Jalen were caught working hard on their writing. Joe also shared his wonderful picture of a Praying Mantis with the class.

Ahanu was caught reading quietly and AR testing.

David was caught keeping an eye on the class “tech.” He makes sure things are turned off (or on) when needed.

Awan was caught helping another student with his work and working well with Tony and Tyler.

Davis was caught reading like crazy and creating beautiful artwork.

Abby and Grace were caught helping pass out papers, collecting books and picking up pencils.

Tatiana has made sure that the lunchboxes are brought upstairs everyday and she makes sure Mrs. Harju gets her Walkie-Talkie charged.

Jalen, Njung’e, Max and Abby were the best behaved at our morning meeting on Wednsday.

Grace has been caught being kind and helpful to everyone.

Patrick and Njung’e were caught reading beautifully together.

Tatiana and Maeve were excellent reading buddies.

In art class, Calvin, Jaida, Sharif, Kevin and Maddie were caught being very good listeners and artists.

Clare was caught being an excellent student!

I wonder who I will catch this week?

Julian was caught displaying excellent behavior (again!) in Mass and was a great example for all!

Tyler was caught displaying good manners and was given compliments by 3 different parents and 1 middle school teacher!

Katie was caught showing kindness to others and helping a student with his reading!

Ryan and Connor were caught reading together quietly!

In art Everyone was caught displaying wonderful behavior, and
Max, Abby and Lily were caught being good listeners and amazing artists!

I am thrilled to catch these children in the act of being wonderful! I hope I can catch some more tomorrow!

We welcome two new students to our classroom this year, Tyler T. and Tatiana H. We are so glad that they have joined our class. We all look forward to getting to know them better.

Today was a fun first day of school. We spent time with Mr. VanDyke in the computer lab in the morning. We used the new SMARTboard to learn math, and pop balloons with our name on them. We look forward to more learning fun with this wonderful tech tool. We thank the Cameron Foundation and the family of Abby Bilyeu for making our SMARTboard possible.
We had fun at recess. We played house, kickball, tag and spider-in-the-web. We enjoyed lunch and lunch recess. Miss Gwen is our new parent helper in the lunchroom. She is very nice. We were glad to see Mr. Anderson on the playground keeping us safe.

Mrs. Harju read the first chapter of Charlotte’s Web to us. She told us that it is her favorite book and that she has read it over 25 times! She also read a new book called Keesha’s Bright Idea! by Eleanor May. It is a book that Mrs. Harju received in the mail. We worked together to write a review of the book and it will be shared with the publisher. We really liked the book. It told of Keesha and her plan to save energy. We learned that many appliances are energy vampires. They suck the energy out of the wall even when they are turned off. The refrigerator uses a lot of energy and every time we stand with the door open, we are wasting energy. We learned that we should think (about what we want to eat) with the door closed. We also learned that carpooling, and using natural light (the sun) as much as possible help save energy. We really enjoyed the book and gave it Strongly Recommended Rating.

We look forward to another great day tomorrow!

Welcome back to school! The new school year will be starting soon. We have a great group of students in second grade this year, with many familiar names and a couple of new ones. I look forward to seeing everyone on September 2.

Just in case……here is another copy of the supply list for this year.

Supply list for second grade:
To make things easier (and hopefully less expensive) I will be collecting a small supply fee and purchasing the majority of the supplies needed for second grade.

Each child will need to bring;
Crayons (48 count or less)
Markers (8-10 pack only)
3 packages of Healthy snacks(Pretzels,Crackers,fruit bars,apples,granola bars)
12 pack of your child’s favorite canned beverage
(diet pop, lemonade, or juice – Accelerated Reader Prize)
1 roll of paper towel and 2 boxes of facial tissue
$15 supply fee (This will be collected at the beginning of the school year.) You may make checks payable to Patti Harj u.
